EQUAL,
East Quabbin Alliance
EQUAL, East
Quabbin Alliance, is a community-based and led coalition that was founded by
local residents in the fall of 2000. Our goals were to meet the needs of
citizens in the towns of Barre, Hardwick, Hubbardston, New Braintree, Oakham and
Petersham, Massachusetts. Our mission statement is; The East Quabbin Alliance
is a community-wide coalition committed to nurturing the quality of life of all
those living in the East Quabbin Region. Our initial organizing efforts
were reinforced significantly when attendees participated in a two-part Healthy
Communities Massachusetts Institute in the spring and fall of 2001. Since then,
despite having few resources beyond "sweat equity," EQUAL has realized a
remarkable number of accomplishments. To name just a few, we have:
*Published Favorite Walking
Routes in Barre, Massachusetts and Surrounding Towns.
*Initiated
a recycling education program with a grant for $2500 from Greater Worcester
Community Foundation.
*Revitalized the Barre Youth Commission, which lead to the opening of a Teen
Center.
*Held
several community forums to share and collect information.
*Applied
for and received funding on behalf of the town of Barre for Environmental
Steward.
*Published
quarterly Newsletters since 2002.

Deep therapeutic massage is a
strong yet patient approach to dissolving tension, pain, injury, or stress.
Together, we explore and care for problem areas in one’s body, connecting
them with the full body, and working at a threshold that is right for each
person. Deep tissue therapy, combined with long flowing strokes, encourages
relaxation as well as a working through of places one feels held or knotted.
Sessions may include corrective yoga, strengthening, coaching for better
posture, and creating a plan for self care at home. People of all ages and
walks of life are welcome.
Pregnancy and motherhood Massage
Carrying a child through pregnancy, birth and infancy is a precious and
demanding responsibility. Fresh air, good food, exercise, relaxation and
touch carry a woman through the physical, hormonal and lifestyle challenges
of childbearing. A mother’s body and emotional life go through great changes
in a relatively short span of time. Massage therapy can help maintain one’s
routine of self care and address the evolving issues of pregnancy and
parenthood. Babies are welcome.
